Language Mockery

I need all the foreign lanuage speakers out there to help me, especially Asians.

I was walking around DC today and there were big protests. The protests were about stuff in China like abuses of the Chinese Communist Party, support Taiwan, etc. This must be because Hu Jintao is visiting.

Anyway it made me think about how English speaking people (possibly all non-Asians) mock or immitate Chinese, Japanese, or other Asian Language. I don't think I can explain it clearly over the Internet, but just think about the sounds you'd make if asked to "speak Chinese"... (assuming you are a native English speaker).

The question that I have is what do Chinese people sound like when they mock or immitate English?

I just can't fathom what it would be like. I imagine them saying stuff like names or products, "CokeMikeDuuuuuuhLevis" or something, but surely that can't be right. When I make jibberish "Chinese" am I actually saying words and I just don't know it or am I just making offensive noises?

If you know of any videos out on the web that show native Asians who don't speak English mocking English speakers send it to me. I am really curious to see and hear it.

  • Ok, this really made me laugh! I guess people don't really mock Indian langues so much, so I can't answer that part of your question....However, I think in most Asian countries, English is learned at a very early age. So, I've never personally heard anyone mocking English in the way that we tend to mock other Asian languages. I'm sure it is done to an extent, though:)

  • Actually...

In my former life, working for a police department gang unit, we had a chinese detective assigned to gangs. One day, he was looking for an intelligence file on a specific individual (gang member).

He turned to our data analyst, and said: "Where is the file for Ruis Ropez?"

    She said, "In the L's."

He was in the "R" drawer.

True story. i was there. It really did happen.
